CRC at the 28th LAP Conference

California Recovery Center (CRC) was pleased to take part in the 28th Labor Assistance Professionals (LAP) Conference that occurred last week. Our Director of Business Development, Nathan Desrys, attended the event in Las Vegas from July 17-21. The LAP attendees consist of individuals working in the mental health and substance abuse field throughout the United States and Canada.

“It was a great opportunity to connect with others in our field and see how they are shaping the conversation around mental health.” said our CRC representative. “It is always uplifting to see how many other like-minded individuals are out there trying to improve mental health and SUD outreach and solutions.”

The conference, which boasted 350 participants from last year’s convention, is a chance to educate about alcohol and substance use treatment. The LAP was formed to ensure the continued availability of mental health and SUD services and promote such services within the workplace.

CRC at Roseville 4th of July Parade

California Recovery Center (CRC) was pleased to spend the 4th of July holiday with the Roseville community by participating in the Downtown Roseville Holiday Parade. As a locally owned business, we were happy to celebrate and gather with our Roseville neighbors, while passing out balloons along the parade route.

Both staff, patients, and former patients, now part of CRC’s alumni program, were in attendance. One participant stated, “We were all so pleased to have the opportunity to get together and enjoy the holiday.” they continued, “Everyone had such great energy!”

The concept behind CRC’s float was centered around mental health. Our slogan “Free Your Emotions, Love Your Mental Health,” was displayed prominently on our float and was designed to promote conversations around mental health. We want individuals to be able to express their feelings and emotions in a positive, healthy way and nurture their own mental health.

Members of California Recovery Center are always looking for ways to engage with the local community through holiday parades, markets, and other events. The team believes it’s important to get out and interact with fellow residents, to let them know we are here to support them!

California Recovery Center has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval®

California Recovery Center has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for Behavioral Health Care and Human Services Accreditation by demonstrating continuous compliance with its performance standards. The Gold Seal is a symbol of quality that reflects a health care organization’s commitment to providing safe and quality patient care.

California Recovery Center underwent a rigorous virtual site review. During the visit, a team of Joint Commission reviewers evaluated compliance with Behavioral Health Care and Human Services standards spanning several areas including emergency management, environment of care, human resources, infection prevention and control, leadership, medication management, and rights and responsibilities of the individual.

The Joint Commission’s standards are developed in consultation with health care experts and providers, measurement experts and patients. They are informed by scientific literature and expert consensus to help health care organizations measure, assess and improve performance. The surveyors also conducted onsite observations and interviews.

“As a private accreditor, The Joint Commission surveys health care organizations to protect the public by identifying deficiencies in care and working with those organizations to correct them as quickly and sustainably as possible,” says Mark Pelletier, RN, MS, chief operating officer, Accreditation and Certification Operations, and chief nursing executive, The Joint Commission. “We commend California Recovery Center for its continuous quality improvement efforts in patient safety and quality of care.”

“I am so grateful to be able to offer a vital service in Roseville, the same community that I grew up in and I am now raising my family in.” explains Will Mentesh, Founder and Chief Executive Officer. “Sometimes good people go through a difficult time without the support system and tools they need to see them through. California Recovery Center is here to be that support and ensure that everyone who walks through our door leaves with the tools, knowledge, confidence, and personal understanding to rejoin or grow within their community as a positive contributor and a successful individual. One way we accomplish this is through our alumni program, which supports CRC clients after they’ve graduated from our program. We provide vital evidenced-based addiction and mental health treatment services so that our past, future, and present clients can experience life as they should.”

California Recovery Center’s pursuit for accreditation began shortly after its inception. The founding members have always been of firm belief that aspiring for The Gold Seal will point the organization to the right path in maintaining quality standards. After countless trials and errors, staff overhauls from the bottom up, and continual revisions to policies and procedures to accommodate novel requirements amid a global pandemic, the organization is ready to take the next big step of upholding The Joint Commission standards to provide the highest quality of care to individuals in treatment.

Most Admired CEOs Honoree: Will Mentesh, California Recovery Center

Will Mentesh, Most Admired CEOs, California Recovery Center

We’re introducing you to our Most Admired CEOs for 2022. Honorees for this award program were nominated by Business Journal readers and staff and chosen through a vote of their peers. Will Mentesh is an honoree in the micro-company category.

For Will Mentesh, the most important part of creating a successful business is choosing the right people.

Mentesh is founder and CEO of California Recovery Center, a business that provides medically supervised drug or alcohol detox services and residential addiction treatment.

Since opening in 2019, the business has expanded from a male-only to a coed facility and added buildings to its residential campus near downtown Roseville. Transitional housing is in the works at another Roseville location.

The licensed facility is now in the final stages of the rigorous accreditation process run by the Joint Commission, a health care-standards organization.

Mentesh said treatment at CRC is geared toward working professionals who are struggling with addiction. He said he’s seen the toll that the fast-paced lifestyle of Silicon Valley startups has taken on tech professionals.

There’s no need for individuals to hit rock bottom — losing their jobs and families — before seeking help, he added.

The business has faced challenges in its first years of operation. Mentesh said he rebuilt CRC twice, as he searched for the right people to fill key roles.

He said the business reached a turning point when he hired Dena Santos as executive director and Ro-Ann Nosotros as chief of staff. The staff members have the care and empathy needed for the job, he said, and Santos has deep roots in the Sacramento area.

“It was about the leadership,” Mentesh said. “They’re both in it to win it.”

Covid-19 was another challenge for CRC.

After the pandemic started, Mentesh partnered with a medical lab to run Covid-19 tests on samples from staff and patients. Seeing a need in the community for more Covid-19 testing, Mentesh decided to offer the service to customers who drive up and provide a saliva sample. The sample is sent to the partnering lab for PCR analysis, with results usually back within 24 hours, Mentesh said.

The testing helped bring in revenue when CRC’s business slowed during the pandemic. In addition, Mentesh used some of his personal savings to avoid staff furloughs during the slowdown.

Mentesh has a bachelor’s degree in international business and a Master of Business Administration with a marketing emphasis. His diverse background includes working for an auto broker while in college, serving as a pharmaceutical sales rep, working in digital advertising and launching a wine and spirits business.

He said the different jobs honed his skills in managing money, partnering with investors, and working with remote and in-person teams.

The decision to open California Recovery Center came from Mentesh’s passion for people. Although he’s not a medical expert, Mentesh said, he is skilled at bringing together people and running a business.

Mentesh is also a believer in giving back to the community. He recently joined the Rotary Club of Roseville as a way to do so.

Anthony Sparzo, CEO and co-founder of Phoenix Rising Interventions and Court Advocacy Services, described Mentesh as having a “huge heart” in addition to being a tenacious and savvy businessman. Sparzo met Mentesh when the CRC founder contacted him about services for a client and has followed the recovery center’s progress since then.

Sparzo said having a staff that supports CRC’s mission has been central to the success of the business.

“It starts and ends with the staff,” Sparzo said. “They all have the same passion, the same energy.”
