Sacramento, CA – April 10, 2025 — California Recovery Center (CRC) proudly participated in Sacramento State University’s 14th annual Out of the Darkness Campus Walk, an event dedicated to suicide prevention and mental health awareness. Organized in partnership with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), the walk brought together students, faculty, and community members to honor those affected by suicide and to advocate for mental health support.
The event commenced at 4:00 p.m. with a mental health resource fair at The WELL building, followed by the walk at 5:30 p.m. Participants embarked on a two-mile journey through campus, symbolizing a collective step toward bringing mental health issues “out of the darkness and into the light.”
CRC’s involvement underscores its commitment to community engagement and holistic wellness. By participating in events like the Out of the Darkness Walk, CRC aims to break the stigma surrounding mental health and to promote open conversations about suicide prevention.
“Being part of this walk allows us to connect with the community and emphasize the importance of mental health awareness,” statement from CRC’s admissions team. “We believe that recovery encompasses both physical and mental well-being, and community events like this are vital in supporting those affected.”
The Out of the Darkness Campus Walk at Sacramento State is one of the nation’s largest, with nearly 1,000 participants in previous years. The event serves as a platform for education, remembrance, and hope, aligning with CRC’s mission to provide comprehensive support for individuals on their recovery journey.
